How is this different from Western astrology?
Western astrology centers on the Sun sign — where the Sun was on your birthday, in twelve signs. Vedic astrology centers on the Moon: which of 27 lunar mansions (nakshatras) it occupied at the moment you were born. Life periods are not cut into even decades but read through dasha cycles, where each planet rules between 6 and 20 years.
Is the date of birth enough?
Yes. The full result appears with just your date. But the 27 birth stars are set by the Moon's position at the moment of birth, so without a time, about one in four results would differ. If you skip the time, we mark the result as provisional at the top.
What if I don't know my birth time?
You can still see everything. We calculate from noon and label it "provisional." We show you the same screen as everyone else — we just won't pretend to be more precise than we are.
Why 27?
The Moon takes about 27 days to circle the sky. India divided that path into 27 sections, each with a name, deity, symbol, and ruling planet. It is finer than the twelve Western signs, so people with the same Sun sign get different birth stars.
