Rohini is ruled by Brahma, the creator (Prajapati). The Moon god Chandra married the 27 daughters of Daksha — who are the 27 birth stars — but favored Rohini above all. Daksha, angered, cursed the Moon to waste away. When the curse was later softened, the Moon began to wax again; this is said to be why it waxes and wanes.
It sits in the heart of Taurus, where the red star Aldebaran shines. Its symbol is an ox cart that carries the harvest. The name itself means "the red one."
